Star of stage and screen shares wisdom with Northbrook students
Renowned actor Ben Miles visited Northbrook College recently, giving students a rare opportunity to hear his story.
Ben, who has appeared in films and TV shows including Napoleon, Andor, The Crown, Nanny McPhee, Black Mirror and Coupling as well as countless theatre productions, spent time at the college’s West Durrington campus, which was purpose built for courses in the creative industries.
There he spoke about his experience at drama school and recalled his first part – Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.
He continued to share his insights, experiences, and passion for acting with eager students from the college’s higher education and further education courses, before giving the students the chance to ask questions.
When he was asked by one student for advice, Ben gave an inspirational reply which contained an important message about confidence by saying: “I would say, don’t take rejection personally – be confident in yourself, be strong in your self-belief.”
Helena Thomas, Principal at Northbrook College, said: “We are very grateful to Ben for taking the time to visit us, and for inspiring the next generation of actors.
“He generously shared his wisdom from his years of experience in the industry offering a glimpse into the realities of the life as a professional actor, from auditions, working with cameras and the exhilarating rush of performing live of stage.
“It’s really important for our students to have opportunities like this. These are provided by our fantastic staff who, through their dual professions of teaching and continuing to work in the industry, have an amazing network of inspirational people who are willing to take the time to share their knowledge.”
